The initials of the Wrexham, Mold and Connah's Quay Railway gave rise to the nickname of the 'Wretchedly Managed and Confoundly Queer Railway' partly due to never reaching Mold and ony taking freight to the Quay. The extension north also had an inappropriate name but both lines were later admired when they became part of the Great Central Railway.
