60 Mins. Colour. Narration. Commencing in August 1968 with the BR '15 Guinea Special', a vsit was then made to the Severn Valley and Keighley and Worth Valley railways in the early days of preservation followed by No. 4472 on the ECML. After a maritime interlude, the scene changes to the Wallingford and Cholsey line for steam with the GWS's 1466 and autotrailer. There follows a visit to the Longmoor Military Railway and then Tyseley where 'Clun Castle' and Kolhapur were working shuttles and 4472 arrived on the main line. In France, steam was still in everyday use and SNCF 141Rs are seen on railtours and service trains. Back to the UK and No. 4472 on the 'Yorkshire Harvester' from Kings Cross to York folowed by Bath Road Depot Open Day including steam visitors and electric locomotive No. 3044. Its off to Bulmers at Hereford with recently restored No. 6000 'King George V' and the Pullman train and then to Bury depot for 5596 'Bahamas' followed by Northanptonshire and industrial workings in quarries and steelworks. There follows more footage mainly taken on early preserved lines.
