60 Mins. Mostly colour. Narration.The railway route through the Peak District lasted over one hundred years. Using archive film from the 1950s/60s, the story begins at Derby and progresses northwards to the Cromford and High Peak line. This is followed by the route via Rowsley to Millers Dale where the Buxton branch diverged and on to Chinley and the New Mills to Bredbury line. The shed at Heaton Mersey is seen from 1962 until closure in 1968 along with the now closed route through Didsbury and Chorlton which brings the film to an end at Manchester Central. Motive power featured ranges from Royal Scots, 4Fs, Black Fives, 8F, 9F plus other standard classes.
